EcoMethane is an integrated project development group dedicated to financing, constructing and operating projects that harness methane emissions to provide sustainable power solutions.
EcoMethane brings together investors, experienced technology providers, site managers, engineers, and consultants to provide integrated solutions for operators and/or owners of sites interested in capitalizing on the opportunities offered by the emerging market in GHG emissions. In short, EcoMethane offers a one-stop solution for the development of methane capture and utilisation projects Developing a project
If you are the owner or an operator of a site that produces methane you have a potential liability that can be turned into a lucrative resource.
Methane (CH4) occurs in a variety of settings. For example, in landfills, methane is generated by the anaerobic decomposition of waste; in coal mines, methane is generated as a by-product of the coal mining process. Unless the emissions from these operations are controlled, the methane is emitted to the atmosphere and contributes to global climate change. Because methane is a powerful greenhouse gas (GHG), its collection and combustion can lead to the creation of ‘carbon credits’ that may be transacted in the emerging carbon market under the Flexibility Mechanisms of the Kyoto Protocol (i.e., the Clean Development Mechanism, or CDM, and Joint Implementation, or JI).
First, flaring the gas may be a relatively quick way to generate income (and improve safety conditions at the site), as doing so will enable you to claim carbon credits. In addition, there are many options available in terms of making productive use of the methane gas. For example, some sites can generate electricity if the gas collected is supplied to a generator as opposed to a flare system for combustion. Also, the methane can be purified and used in vehicles. Other alternative uses of the gas can also be explored, including use in boilers or as a replacement for fuels used in certain industries. Role of EcoMethane
EcoMethane will design, install and operate a proper methane collection system and flares that will destroy the methane emissions. We will also install and operate equipment to generate electricity or purify the gas (either landfill gas or mines gas) through our own membrane technology so that it can be used in vehicles.
All of the equipment we use is manufactured or assembled by our partner companies. Biogas designs and assembles the gas collection and destruction systems, while ENER-G designs and assembles the power generators. In addition, EcoMethane, through EcoSecurities, offers the entire range of services to transact carbon credits, from the preparation of the required documentation to registering the project to marketing the carbon credits. Who Can Benefit?
In particular, owners and operators of landfills and coal mines stand to gain from the technology and carbon credit solutions offered by EcoMethane.
Working with EcoMethane offers many benefits:
• Revenue generation (i.e., royalty payments)
• We assume all of the risks and costs of developing the project
• Taking advantage of a previously untapped resource
• Leadership and participation in the global effort to address climate change
• Managing methane gas ensures site safety
• Working with leading technology providers and carbon trading specialists with unparalleled track records
• Potential for electricity generation or other uses for the methane gas, all of which can generate additional revenue
• Generation of foreign direct investment in industrialising countries
• Global / local environmental benefits from reduced harmful emissions
• Site development encourages local employment
