Governor Schwarzenegger's Global Climate Summit - 18th/19th November

A declaration pledging to work together to combat global warming has been signed by the Governor Schwarzenegger, his counterparts in 12 states and regional leaders in 4 countries on the last day of the Global Climate Summit. The conference was organised by the Governor Schwarzenegger, to bring together US and international leaders to develop cooperative partnerships and promote collaborative actions needed to combat climate change. President-Elect Barack Obama also used the opportunity to make a speech regarding a US commitment to a federal cap and trade system. The aim is for the US to reduce emissions by 80% by 2050. The emissions created by the event were neutralised by voluntary offsets donated by EcoSecurities.

A new industry voice in the carbon market
November saw the launch of the Project Developer Forum (PDF), the collective industry voice to represent the interests of companies developing greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction projects in international carbon markets.
The PDF aims to interact with regulators such as the CDM EB to improve efficiencies and influence policy developments and standards, as well as address reoccurring issues such as methodology problems, process delays and registration and issuance issues.

The PDF was founded by nine members, including: AES Climate Solutions, Camco, Climate Change Capital, EcoSecurities, First Climate, ICECAP, Natsource, Sindicatum Carbon Capital and Tricorona. It is open to all organisations focused on the identification, sourcing and implementation of GHG emission reduction projects as their core business activity.
