Role Summary

This position will lead all aspects of the Community and Energy (C&E) program for ecosecurities across the Asia-Pacific region. The role will partner with ecosecurities Head for APAC to build our strategic approach to driving growth and expansion of our C&E program and will be the driving force in the end-to-end development, execution, sale and impact reporting within international carbon standards and to clients, communities and our Board. Our current portfolio includes cookstove programs in Timor Leste, Myanmar and Vanuatu (proposed), home and commercial biogas units in Laos, a proposed biochar project in Thailand and proposed community renewal energy project in Vanuatu. Growth and expansion of the C&E program will be a significant aspect of this role.

The role will bring deep expertise in current and emerging C&E opportunities in the voluntary carbon market aligned to international standards and methodologies to ensure the development and compliance of these projects to the very highest standards of integrity. This will be matched with a demonstrated ability to identify strategic opportunities, build a business with value-aligned clients, and develop a team of outstanding professionals to execute and deliver.

The role will report to the APAC Head for the Asia-Pacific region, is a part of the APAC management team and will be responsible for: i) setting the strategic pathway for growth of the ecosecurities APAC C&E program; ii) identifying and building solid working relationships with key partners across the AP region, iii) building and managing a team of technical professionals to develop end-to-end carbon projects, iv) overseeing the quality and integrity of all C&E projects developed and delivered by ecosecurities.

Its success will be based upon strong partnership development, identification of strategic opportunities, knowledge of the sector to capture these opportunities, and the growth of an outstanding technical team with the capacity to delivery for community, clients, and our climate.

Key Work Outputs And Accountabilities

  • Set and execute ecosecurities C&E strategic plan for the Asia-Pacific region and work with C&E staff to create a high quality, high integrity pipeline and portfolio of C&E projects.

  • Build, develop and strengthen strong, robust external partnerships to execute on the C&E Asia-Pacific strategy and support internal partnerships to grow connections and the sharing of technical expertise and knowledge.

  • Lead the development of new opportunities and thematic areas for the growth and expansion of ecosecurities C&E program of work. This includes leading project origination, screening, feasibility and risk assessment of new opportunities.

  • Build, manage and mentor a technical team of C&E professionals based across the Asia-Pacific region, ensuring a coordinated and fun work environment while building internal capacity and capability.

  • Set budgets, work plans, and project metrics for the efficient execution of projects, including the monitoring of project against agreed metrics.

  • Work with the Asia-Pacific head to set internal policy, templates, and frameworks.

  • Remain current on Voluntary Carbon Market standards and methodologies, UNFCCC developments, and bringing advances into the development of ecosecurities’ C&E project planning and design.

  • Manage external partner relationships, including convening expert stakeholder input to accelerate project development.

  • Represent ecosecurities in Asia-Pacific forums and events and professionally present the work of ecosecurities across the region.

  • Work collaboratively with other members of the APAC team and the global C&E teams.



  • Master's degree in energy, engineering, waste management, community development, environmental science, environmental engineering, natural resource management, conservation management or related fields.

  • 10 years of professional experience with at least 7 years leading renewable energy, community energy, improved cookstove, conservation, power, climate change or international development projects across the Asia-Pacific region.

  • Experience in 'building out' a team of C&E professionals and managing performance across geographically isolated locations.

  • Experience in business development and converting opportunities into contracted projects.

  • Technical expertise in GHG quantification and GHG accounting in accordance with VCM methodologies.

  • Proven team player able to work effectively across cultures and within and across organizations.

  • Highly organized and strong attention to detail and experience with work-flow documentation.

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to build on existing knowledge to develop new approaches.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


  • Knowledge of community, renewable and micro energy policy settings and trends across the Asia-Pacific region.

  • Expertise in commercialisation, negotiation, and sales of voluntary carbon units

  • Broad and deep professional networks across the Asia-Pacific region

  • Demonstrated ability to collect data, conduct analysis, interpret and communicate results for a broad audience including government and corporate partners, community leaders and conservation practitioners.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant climate and carbon science literature.

  • Ability to work independently and with minimal guidance.

  • Proficient in an Asia-Pacific language outside English.

  • Based within the Asia-Pacific region.


7+ years post-qualification experience leading or managing large, complex community and energy or conservation programs across the Asia-Pacific region.
