Role Summary


ecosecurities is a global carbon development and financing firm, based in Geneva and with offices and staff across the Asia region.

ecosecurities is assessing the feasibility of an integrated Improved Cookstove (ICS) and Afforestation, Reforestation, and Revegetation project (ICS/ARR) and seeking to potentially register a Nature-based Solutions (NBS) project in the Philippines with an international Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM) Standard.

Both projects will contribute to the conservation and community development objectives of the Government of the Philippines, local partners and communities involved.

For this important work, ecosecurities is looking to contract a technical Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) specialist on a four-month contract, with the long-term view to permanently contract an NBS specialist depending on the outcomes of both projects and funding availability.


Key Work Outputs and Accountabilities

  • Arrange stakeholder meetings, data collection, work planning and coordinate with ecosecurities NBS Head to achieve consultancy outcomes.

  • Support the ecosecurities HEAD NBS in the development of an NBS project in the Philippines. Specific tasks to be agreed once funding is secured, but expected tasks include:

a. Stakeholder identification and identification of roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders.

b. Coordinate with government on policy settings impacting on jurisdictional program.

c. Review of jurisdictional standards and methodologies appropriate for the proposed project.

d. Collection of data and information for geospatial analysis and emission calculations, and

e. Designing community-lead project interventions and modelling expected project scenario emissions.

  • Assess the feasibility of a combined improved cookstoves (ICS) and ARR (e.g., agroforestry and/or restoration) project in the Philippines, focusing on CBFM groups and Indigenous Peoples. Specific tasks are to be jointly set with the ecosecurities Head NBS, but will include:

a. Identifying locations of likely eligible households, likely ARR areas, locally relevant planting models, and project partners

b. Conducting baseline household surveys

c. Analyzing biomass consumption rates and other growth parameters

d. Identifying appropriate cookstove designs, and

e. Estimating cost of ICS and ARR project cost.


Qualifications


Essential: The consultant is expected to have excellent written and verbal communication skills in the following languages: Tagalog, English.


Desirable: Ilocano, Kapampangan, Bisaya, or other local languages.


Experience

  • Experience in private-public partnership development, multi-stakeholder engagements, and community-based consultations.

  • Experience in applying Philippine laws, policies, and regulations related to forestry, environment, and indigenous rights for carbon project development.

  • Experience in designing field surveys, conducting stakeholder consultations, and community-based participatory mapping techniques.

Skills / Knowledge

  • Knowledge in NBS and ICS project development consistent with VCM, jurisdictional programs (i.e., JNR and ART TREES) and other global standards (i.e., World Bank FCPF, UNFCCC CDM).

  • Knowledge in GHG quantification for ecosystems and/or household devices and other technologies using VCM methodologies.
