Analyst, Policy and Markets – Geneva - Switzerland - Hybrid

In this role, you’ll work with the Advisory Unit in fulfilling its mandate to support governmental entities, private sector and civil society organizations’ engagement with climate finance and carbon markets from a policy and technical perspective. This will involve close engagement with international climate governance systems, local climate frameworks, self-regulated systems and topics relating to sustainable and climate finance, carbon project development, planning and implementation of policy and strategic roadmaps, and considering socio-economic and cultural context. There is no geographical or economic sector restriction or priority. Therefore, you can expect to work with a wide range of technologies in the carbon industry (e.g., nature-based solutions, renewable energy, energy efficiency, methane collection, technological removals, etc.) in varying regions (e.g., Latin America, Europe, MENA, Sub-Saharan Africa, Central Asia and Southeast Asia)

 

A good candidate for this role would be keen to increase their knowledge about carbon markets, climate policy and carbon project development with proactive and hands-on nature that would be able to take on new challenges, be able to assess and prepare policy and carbon technical grounded analysis to support the Advisory Unit’s activities at origination, design and execution of Advisory mandates. The good candidate would also be literate on climate finance and carbon markets’ best practices and main initiatives in order to ground your work.

 

You will support the Advisory Unit under the leadership of the Head of Policy and Markets and will be expected to collaborate with colleagues across Europe, Latin America, Africa, and Southeast Asia, as well as clients and business partners from multicultural backgrounds. In this role, you will be exposed to cultural diversity, which will demand good teamwork and adaptability skills. You’d also be keen on travelling for work.

 

Key Responsibilities


Support the Advisory Unit to:


  • Build and maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant changes in regulated and voluntary carbon standards and develop a clear understanding of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement context of the work that you are performing;

  • Respond to Request for Proposals, and identify new contacts and opportunities with other organizations;

  • Support commercial interaction with potential project partners in a technical capacity;

  • Support and draft internal reports, materials and documents to feed internal and external clients;

  • Work closely with other business units to the timely and streamlined discussion and implementation of your activities;

  • Develop a base understanding of the technical carbon project cycle and carbon markets in a broader sense to be able to draft commercial proposals;

  • Manage projects and deliverables with comfort, identifying and addressing key project risks.

 

Capabilities and Experience


  • 1-2 years’ experience in working in Environment or Climate Change related work;

  • Hold higher education degree, ideally a master's, in a relevant field such as Climate Change, Environmental Management, International Relations, Political Science, Sustainable Development or equivalent;

  • Strong interest in carbon markets and the carbon project cycle from registration to issuance – previous knowledge is not necessarily preferable;

  • An appreciation for the context of Carbon Markets within the broader Paris Agreement and Article 6 context.

  • Proficiency in English is a must.
